5 Reading Areas We Love

At-home reading areas are intimate, thoughtfully designed spaces that foster a tranquil atmosphere for reading, reflection and relaxation. These spaces complement the overall design of the home, blending functionality with aesthetic. A well-designed reading nook offers a quiet retreat from daily life, focusing on comfort, natural light, and a connection to the surrounding environment.

We enjoy creating great little occasion spots in our home designs, and today, we’re highlighting some of our favorite reading areas. These spaces are often placed in corners, by windows, or in rooms that are quieter, away from high-traffic zones.

5 Reading Areas We Love

First up is a cozy reading area in our newly completed Inspired Greek Revival project. Featuring built-in shelving and a cushioned sitting area, this dreamy children’s bedroom book nook features interior design by Kelly Rosen Design.

Next up is the hallway reading area in our Shorefront Shingle design. Located off the main staircase, this tiny seating area and book shelving make what would otherwise be a forgotten landing area feel a bit luxurious.

Moving on, we have a kid’s bedroom reading area in our Classical Revival design. In the space, cases and storage drawers bookend the triple double-hung bedroom windows with cushioned seat below.

Next up is the eye-catching stair hall reading area in our French Eclectic home. The space features a cozy library nook rendered in hand-hewn timber and painted millwork cases marked by LED accent lighting, denticulated crown moulding, half-round pilasters, and a stained maple edge nosing.

Lastly, the above pictured bedroom reading alcove sits pretty in our Greenwich Waterfront Shingle home. The space features a charming window niche, built-in shelving, and cushioned seating area, serving as a nice spot to relax with a good book or study while lounging.

Utilizing underused spaces, such as alcoves and bay windows, can transform an awkward area into a cozy retreat. Whether it’s a minimalist setup or a book-filled nook with eclectic decor, the goal is to create a tranquil atmosphere.
